ADVANCE UNDERWRITING MANAGERS, LLC (AUM)

AUM is a privately held Managing General Underwriter that was formed in 1994 by its owners to serve specific niches in the property and casualty insurance business. The founders of AUM recognize the specialized nature of various market niches. Special niches require unique policy forms, rating plans and underwriting treatment. AUM was consequently created to provide agents and insureds with a platform that focuses on their niches. AUM will offer solutions to insurance needs of a niche by utilizing their substantial expertise, experience and systems.

AUM’s customers are independent insurance agents/agencies that specialize in particular niches and where competitive advantage can be gained. These agents specialize in the agricultural insurance business – primarily equestrian. Going forward, AUM will branch into other specialties applying the same philosophy as established in 1994 – that is, using specialty agents that understand the industry they are associated with and the business of insurance.

In recent history, AUM has formed a unique relationship with Albion insurance company, domiciled in Barbados, West Indies. Albion provides reinsurance support for AUM and its carriers. This support enables AUM to provide superior computer, website applications and product development for its agents.

AUM also has announced a product development initiative to provide a fresh insurance approach for Rental Equipment Dealers. These products will be underwritten and policies and forms will processed on an internet application that is under development. The marketing effort will begin in November of 2011.

Mission Statement

To make an underwriting profit for the insurance companies and reinsurers that support AUM. This will be accomplished by utilizing common sense underwriting, better claims handling techniques, and adequate pricing practices. We will offer superior products and services and seek to solve the insurance needs of our agents. The agents served will exhibit quality, specialize in a niche, and be willing to place Advance Underwriting Managers LLC in a primary and profitable position within their agency.

To be recognized nationally as a niche insurer of first choice by offering superior products and services and seeking to solve the insurance needs of its partners. AUM will be a unique entity in that it will offer Internet solutions to agencies in order to effectively compete with direct writers, while continually valuing the importance of personal contact and the exchange of ideas.

The Management

Chairman – G. Lahrye Radford, CPCU a 32 year veteran in the insurance industry and has held various top management positions in both underwriting and marketing. Radford Founded AUM in 1994 with the assistance of David Pfetzer CPCU, AU. Radford has additional expertise in accounting, finance, computer processing and internet application design. As Chairman of AUM Radford is responsible for corporate profits, Strategic planning, financial matters and insurance and reinsurance company relations and contracting.

Radford is a graduate of Florida State University with a BS degree in Marketing and a minor in accounting – he obtained the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) professional designation and is a member of the CPCU society.

President, CEO and Chief Underwriting Officer – David M. Pfetzer, CPCU, AUa 27 year veteran of the insurance business with clear expertise in developing, marketing and underwriting commercial and personal equestrian insurance products. Pfetzer is an industry leader in product development. He has rewritten the animal mortality, major medical, and liability products for AUM. These new designs reflect the current needs of the horse owner for coverage and the recent developments in Veterinary Medical practice.

A hands-on Insurance Executive with the demonstrated ability and passion for leading and mentoring people to accomplish their goals. Pfetzer from the Geneva, Illinois office of AUM will direct/lead the functions of AUM – marketing, underwriting and processing.

Pfetzer is a graduate of Iowa State University of Science and Technology with a BS degree in Economics. After graduation from Iowa State, he obtained the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and the Associate in Underwriting (AU) professional designations. In 9/99 from Columbia Business School he completed the Executive Education Program, Leading and Managing People.

Director – Russell J. English, PhD a successful international insurance executive that has top management experience as the Managing director of Asset Underwriting Ltd, Trenwick International and the Chief Underwriter of a Lloyds Syndicate that he founded – R J English and Others.

English has a unique command of actuarial mathematics and combining those skills with strategic planning. He assisted AUM in identifying the problems and promulgating the cure for the issues that confront the industry-wide loss ratio problems with the Major Medical coverage.

English Has a Bsc degree in Civil Engineering from the Salford University, United Kingdom. And he obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from Manchester University, United Kingdom. English’s first job was as a specialist engineer in soil mechanics. This background paved his way into the insurance industry when he was employed by SCOR (Paris) as a facultative reinsurance underwriter in the Engineering Department. English advanced in SCOR to Chief Underwriter and then to Managing Director of SCOR (UK). He holds the distinction as the first non-French member of the SCOR Group Executive Board.
